Frequently asked questions

Common questions about babysitter emergency info sheets.

What should be on a babysitter emergency info sheet?

Include 911 and Poison Control at the top, parent cell numbers, your full home address, the date and time range of the sit, each child's name, age, allergies, and medications, two or three backup emergency contacts, the pediatrician and preferred hospital, insurance carrier and policy number, house rules, and the location of your first-aid kit and fire extinguisher.

Is it safe to leave personal info for a babysitter?

Only leave the info your sitter needs to keep your kids safe. You can blank out the alarm code or WiFi password if you prefer, and you should only share the sheet with sitters you trust. Take the sheet back or shred it after the job if it includes sensitive details.

What phone numbers do babysitters need most?

911 and Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) come first. Then both parents' cell phones, two or three trusted backup adults, the pediatrician, the preferred hospital, and a non-emergency police line if your area uses one. Add the home address and nearest cross street so a sitter can read it to a 911 dispatcher.

Should I list food allergies on the sheet?

Yes. List every known food allergy, environmental allergy, and medication allergy for each child, plus the symptoms and what to do, including where the EpiPen or allergy medication is and how to use it. Allergies should be visible on the printed sheet, not buried in notes.

How often should I update my babysitter info sheet?

Refresh the sheet any time something changes - a new phone number, a new pediatrician, a child's birthday or new medication, or a new house alarm code. A quick check each time you book a sitter takes thirty seconds and prevents stale information in an emergency.
